Robot And Frank ¬ DVD

Set in the near future, an ex-jewel thief receives a gift from his two grown kids who are concerned he can no longer live alone: a robot butler programmed to look after him.

They are tempted to place him in a nursing home until Frank’s son chooses a different option: against the old man’s wishes, he buys Frank a walking, talking humanoid robot programmed to improve his physical and mental health.

What follows is an often hilarious and somewhat heartbreaking story about finding friends and family in the most unexpected places.

The film debuted to a warm reception at Sundance in January, takes the Siri concept a step further by picturing a world in which a human-size automaton blandly breaks the law if that pleases its master.

Written by graphic novelist-turned-screenwriter Christopher Ford, the indie film picked up a 2012 Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize awarded to science-themed pictures. Co-starring James Marsden, Liv Tyler and Susan Sarandon, Robot & Frank marks the debut of TV commercial director Jake Schreier, whose previous credits include a spot for the IPhone 4.
