Cloud Atlas ¬ DVD

This morning, something pretty amazing happened: The first trailer for Cloud Atlas hit, and it was spectacular.

Unfortunately, it leaked online a little early for the studio’s liking, but has now officially surfaced this afternoon, and brought with it a wonderful first poster, along with a little commentary from the three directors – Lana and Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer – giving a very interesting introduction to the difficult path they’ve had bringing the film to the big screen.

The three directors have co-written the script together, based on David Mitchell’s acclaimed novel of the same name, and have assembled a fantastic cast who, as you will see, take on multiple roles and characters across the centuries the film spans.

The cast is undeniably beyond impressive, headed up by Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant.

Cloud Atlas will be released on 26th October, and by all accounts, we can almost certainly look forward to a strong awards campaign heading for the Oscars later this year. For now, I leave you with the official trailer, the directors’ commentary, and the first official poster. And if you’d like to watch the first two in HD, you can head over to Apple here.
